How to count 5/4
Five quarter notes per bar, almost always grouped into two unequal halves: 3+2 or 2+3. The best-known example is Dave Brubeck's “Take Five”, in 3+2.
Tips
- Count “1-2-3-1-2” out loud, stressing the start of each group.
- If the piece is in 2+3, change the grouping in the grouping field.
- Use muted bars to check you can keep the count on your own.
