What it does
It reads the chords of your song (above the lyrics, as in any songbook) and suggests a new harmony without touching the lyrics or the alignment. Pick a style:
- Gentle: sevenths and a few subtle substitutions. Richer, same character.
- Modern pop: ninth chords, resolving suspensions and the classic borrowed iv before coming home.
- Jazz: ii–V before every important change and tritone substitution on the dominants.
- Gospel / soul: secondary dominants, passing diminished chords and IV over the V bass.
Then you can swap any chord for another option. Under each one you'll see why it works.
The techniques it uses
- Diatonic substitution: one chord for another in the key that shares notes (C → Am, F → Dm).
- Secondary dominant: the chord that pushes towards the next one (E7 before Am).
- ii–V: two chords that set up the arrival (Dm7 – G7 → C).
- Tritone substitution: the dominant replaced by the one a tritone away (D♭7 instead of G7), with the bass sliding down by semitones.
- Modal interchange: chords borrowed from the minor mode (Fm, B♭, A♭).
- Passing diminished: links two chords when the bass rises a tone (C – C♯dim7 – Dm).
- Inversions: the same chord with another bass note so the bass line walks.
Before you use it on stage
The tool doesn't know the melody. Most changes work, but one may clash with a long note in the vocal. Sing or play the melody over it and, if something clashes, choose another option for that chord.
Frequently asked questions
Is it artificial intelligence?
No. It uses classic harmony rules, the same ones taught at music school or jazz school. That's why it can explain every change.
Does it change the lyrics or alignment?
No. Only the chord lines change; the lyrics stay the same and every chord keeps its place.
Does it work with solfège (Do-Re-Mi)?
Yes. It reads both Do-Re-Mi and C-D-E, and you choose which one you want in the result.
What if I don't like a chord?
In “Chord by chord” you pick another option or keep the original.
Can I hear the result?
Yes, with a simple piano sound, both the original and the reharmonized version, so you can compare.
